Contours are dangerous – look for something else
By Mr. Izzy
These wiper blades are just plain dangerous! My vehicle came with the beam blades so I substituted them with the Anco Contours. After just a few months, Driver and passenger sides have both invented an approx 3 inch MAJOR streak right at the point where the blade attaches to the wiper’s ‘beam’. In the rain, which we’ve had rather a bit of, this area is out of the question to see through while the ends of the blade are fine. Unfortunately, the area with the streak is directly in the line of vision, so I will have to peer over or beneath the streak to see. This design of the Contour is merely flawed. Since I replace my blades long before necessary, I always toss the old ones in the trunk as a precaution in case I harm one while scraping ice off the windshield as I’ve done on a few occasions. A look at the OEM blades vs the ANCO Contours reveals the problem. The area where the beam is attached to the Contour Blade is precisely 2 1/8″ just less in width and directly over the area where the streak is occurrring. The pressure employed at this point is causing untimely wear in the center of the blade while the ends are fine. The OEM blade is attached to the beam over an ~9 inch attachment that is hinged and attached at both ends of the attachment. This evidently applies pressure more evenly throughout the beam and does away with the streaking. Be admonished when it comes to the Contours – look for something that does not have this design and spreads the pressure more evenly.
